For James, accounting was never just a profession—it was a calling born right here in Cedar Rapids, where he watched a family business nearly crumble under the weight of preventable financial mistakes. IRS levies froze payroll. Tax penalties crushed momentum. And the pressure nearly shattered a dream built on sacrifice. Helping with daily bookkeeping, young James witnessed firsthand how devastating poor accounting can be—and how transformative proper financial guidance truly is.

That moment sparked a lifelong mission: to protect Cedar Rapids entrepreneurs from financial chaos and help them build businesses that last.

Years later, after being admitted to the University of Iowa Honors Program, James pursued accounting with singular focus. While most of his peers were drawn to job security, James was driven by impact. Early coursework, mentorship from the MAc program, and conversations with local advisors helped solidify a path that led straight back to the community that shaped him.

Cedar Rapids Entrepreneurship & Early Advisory Work

At the University of Iowa’s Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory (BELL), James was selected to join Launch Services, a student-run consulting firm helping small businesses throughout Cedar Rapids, North Liberty, and the surrounding corridor. As Chief Technology Officer, he led financial system setups and strategy for local coffee shops, solar installers, excavation firms, and medical providers—many of whom used his forecasts to secure startup funding and small business loans.

In 2014, inspired by these early experiences and with a clear long-term vision, he registered the domain corridor-consulting.com—committed to one day launching a firm that would support local entrepreneurs like those he grew up around.

James went on to join Mercy Physician Services, right here in Cedar Rapids, where he served under multiple CPAs across three corporate entities. He managed GAAP compliance, coordinated with clinic directors, oversaw monthly closings for 16+ sites, and helped steward a $1M+ capital budget. His process improvement efforts earned him Green Belt certification, saving the outpatient system over $150K/year, and he played a central role in retiring a 30-year-old legacy system and deploying a modern cloud-based ERP.

Driven to master tax law, James joined a local CPA firm that specialized in high-net-worth clients, trusts, and closely held businesses across Iowa.
